Sometimes, it seems as though the world is a cruel and vindictive place. The breaks and way life rolls seems to work against you more often than not. So, when life seems to have ultimate control over you, I would remind everyone to ask themselves one thing,

"I have only one life to live. Is this how I want to live?"

If the answer is "No.". Then, you MUST remember how it is you wish to live. You will find, that the Epicurean and Stoic ways of life are relevant here. Epicurean life would tell you, that you must simply enjoy every moment of life. We know that in our society of realism, this isn't always possible. However, we must remember that there are few greater joys than spending time with our friends and our families, enjoying life and living to the fullest. The Stoic way of life also applies, telling us that we must be reserved to an extent and possess a level of deep inner thought. It is a combination, in my humble opinion, of Stoicism and Epicureanism that will result in the greatest enjoyment of life.

I would urge those, who chose the path of vindictive, dogmatic, attacks to remember who it is they are attacking. I would urge them to remember whose company they enjoy most and I would encourage them to make ammends. For those feeling overwhelmed, I would encourage them to remember their value and self-worth. I would encourage them to remember that they too have come far in life, however, they must continue further on.

I would encourage a healthy amount of self indulgence, but I would remind that person. That they must contribute an equal amount of selflessness to their friends and family. I would remind every person that when it comes to self-indulgence we tend to over indulge often leading to a quagmire in our relationships with our fellow human beings. A quagmire wrought with disinterest, distaste, and disdain.

As a closing, remember a few great quotes from our history on this giant rock:

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what can I do for my country!" John F. Kennedy

"The people will revolt." Marie Antoinette

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." Mahatma Gandhi

now that you friend-ed me and i can comment, i forgot what i was going to post ^^;
but i agree with what you said completely
which is also why i dont have a clue what i wish to do after highschool, or what i wish to do once i have been released from these first shackles of life
do i wish or need to put on a second set once these are off or should i free myself of the general society and live only how i want to? that is the question i ask myself.
but perhaps that can answer itself as i have now found the love of my life.
